What Is Energy Healing (Reiki)?
Energy Healing, also known as Reiki, is a gentle yet powerful holistic practice that supports balance and harmony within your body, mind, and spirit. It’s based on the understanding that everything is made of energy — including our thoughts, emotions, and physical bodies. When this energy becomes blocked or imbalanced through stress, trauma, or emotional strain, it can manifest as fatigue, pain, or emotional discomfort.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner acts as a channel for universal life force energy — a deeply intelligent and loving energy that flows through all living beings. By placing their hands lightly on or above specific points on the body, the practitioner helps to clear energetic blockages, restore flow, and stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal.
Many clients describe Reiki as a warm, peaceful, and deeply relaxing experience. Some feel subtle sensations like tingling, warmth, or waves of calm; others simply drift into a meditative state. Every session is unique, meeting you exactly where you are and supporting what you need most in that moment.
Reiki does not replace medical treatment but beautifully complements it — often helping reduce stress, improve sleep, release emotional tension, and promote overall wellbeing.
What is EMDR ?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing memories, trauma, and emotional difficulties. It was originally developed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but has since been widely used for anxiety, depression, phobias, and other emotional challenges.
How EMDR Works
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory cues) to activate both hemispheres of the brain while recalling distressing memories. This process helps to “reprocess” stored trauma in a way that reduces its emotional intensity and changes how it is stored in the nervous system.
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-centered healing approach that use awareness of the body to address emotional distress, trauma, and stress. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which focuses primarily on cognitive processing, somatic therapy acknowledges that our bodies store past experiences, particularly trauma, essentially “keeping the score”.
How Somatic Therapy Works
Somatic therapy helps individuals become more aware of bodily sensations, movement, and breath to release stored trauma and tension. Through guided awareness and physical exercises it promotes healing at a deeper, physiological level.
Benefits of a Somatic EMDR approach for the Nervous System
- Regulates the Stress Response – Both approaches help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing activation of the fight-or-flight response and allowing the nervous system to return to a calmer state.
- Reduces Emotional Triggers – By desensitizing past experiences, both approaches decrease reactivity to emotional triggers, making it easier to respond to situations with greater balance.
- Promotes Nervous System Resilience – The process strengthens the nervous system’s ability to tolerate stress, improving overall emotional regulation and adaptability.
- Supports the Release of Stuck Trauma – Trauma is often stored in the body, contributing to chronic tension, hypervigilance, and dysregulation. Both approaches help release stored trauma by engaging the body’s natural healing processes.
